Mr. Franklin J. Zigman, Organist and Choirmaster

Franklin Zigman came to All Saints' Church in 1990 when he joined the choir as bass-baritone section leader and soloist. In subsequent years he was sometime sub-organist and in 1992 and 1993 acted as Interim Organist. In 1994 he assumed the position of Organist and Choirmaster at the then Rector's request.

Mr. Zigman began organ studies at the age of 14 and began his first unofficial appointment as sub-organist when he was 15 for Westminster Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia. His first official appointment as Organist and Choirmaster was at the age of 16 for Colwyn Baptist Church, Darby. During his tenure at Colwyn Baptist, he was able to grow the choir from 12 to over 35 members and add two special choral events each year. Having been raised Roman Catholic, Mr. Zigman found an affinity for the Episcopal Church and accepted the appointment as Organist and Choirmaster for St. Giles Episcopal Church, Stonehurst Hills. While at St. Giles, Mr. Zigman implemented a dynamic music program that involved the local community and presented a yearly concert series. Having embraced the "Anglican Way," he continued his association with the Episcopal church and joined the choir of St. Clement's Church, Philadelphia as baritone soloist and cantor. In addition to his duties as chorister and cantor at St. Clement's, he was sometime sub-organist for Sunday Evensong and Benediction. During graduate school in the late eighties and early nineties, he became section leader and soloist for the choir at Trinity Episcopal Church, Wilmington, DE.

Mr. Zigman studied the organ with some of the leading organists of the U. S. and Canada, including John Tuttle, Robert Plimpton and the late Keith Chapman. He studied choral conducting with Lois Williams, David Sprenkle and Alan Harler. He has appeared in recital throughout the greater Philadelphia Area, including playing the magnificent Wanamaker Organ in downtown Philadelphia. In Europe, he has played at the Stephans Dom (The Cathedral of St. Stephen) and the Augustiner Kirche in Vienna, Austria and at Durham Cathedral in Durham, England. As well, he has been a guest conductor at The University of Glasgow, Scotland; Sydney Sussex College, Cambridge University and at the church of St. Mary the Virgin in Woodbridge, England.

Mr. Zigman's DMA (abd) studies at Temple University included his major in Voice Performance with minors in Choral Conducting and Vocal Pedagogy. He has been teaching at the college level since 1991, when he was appointed to the adjunct faculty of the Music Department at Valley Forge Christian College. He taught at Temple University from 1995 to 2002 as a member of the affiliate faculty teaching Voice and Undergraduate Vocal Repertoire. Currently, he is Director of the University Singers and Chamber Ensemble at St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, where he also teaches a course on Choral Music as an adjunct faculty member. In addition to his DMA studies, Mr. Zigman has received a MM in Voice Performance from Temple University in 1991 and a BM in Voice Performance from West Chester University in 1988
